摘 要商務(wù)函電作為一種在特定場合使用的語言,經(jīng)過多年的使用,形成了一套較完整的特殊語言表達形式以及本身具有的用詞的特征。外貿(mào)函電的翻譯,不但要有良好的英語和漢語基礎(chǔ),而且還應(yīng)注意外貿(mào)函電的用詞特點。因此,主要從商務(wù)函電英譯漢的角度出發(fā),詳細闡述外貿(mào)函電翻譯的用詞技巧。 關(guān)鍵詞商務(wù)函電;英譯漢;用詞;技巧 中圖分類號 H315.9 文獻標識碼A文章編號1673-9671-(2010)032-0129-01 外貿(mào)英語函電是英語語言體系中的一個分支,是為對外貿(mào)易活動這一特定的專業(yè)學科服務(wù)的專門用途英語。它基于英語的基本語法、句法結(jié)構(gòu)和詞匯,但又具有其獨特的語言現(xiàn)象和表現(xiàn)內(nèi)容。注意外貿(mào)英語中函電寫作的用詞與格式,在英文合同的翻譯中區(qū)分易混淆的詞語并掌握外貿(mào)傳真的語法結(jié)構(gòu)和運用技巧,做到語言運用自如,有助于商務(wù)活動獲得成功。函電用詞貫穿于整個函電翻譯的實際操作過程之中,翻譯不嚴謹或用詞不當可能會導(dǎo)致國際貿(mào)易糾紛。在函電英譯漢的過程中,除了了解普通英語語言的共同特征外,還應(yīng)把握其專業(yè)特征,掌握運用一定的用詞技巧,準確理解詞語涵義,從而使函電翻譯嚴謹無誤。 1根據(jù)習慣搭配確定詞義 詞語搭配指的是句子成分內(nèi)部詞與詞的搭配使用,如名詞詞組內(nèi)部中心詞(名詞)與其修飾語(定語)的搭配,動詞詞組內(nèi)部動詞與其賓語或狀語的搭配等等。因此,當我們確定了其中的一個詞義之后,我們就可以根據(jù)這個詞的意思來確定與之搭配使用的另一個詞的意思。如:negotiable該詞在修飾不同的名詞時,含義有較大不同。當“negotiable”修飾“bank”時,意為“議付”;當“negotiable”修飾“copy of B/L.”時,意為“可轉(zhuǎn)讓的”。 2根據(jù)詞的引伸義確定詞義 外貿(mào)英語函電英譯漢過程中,在詞典上找不到適當詞義時,不要照搬詞典中的解釋硬譯。在這種情況下,應(yīng)根據(jù)這個詞所含的基本意義,結(jié)合上下文和邏輯關(guān)系,引申該詞的意義,選擇較恰當?shù)臐h語來表達。比如:“economic”意為“經(jīng)濟”,但在“economic prices”中引申為“較低”。 3通過詞性轉(zhuǎn)換確定詞義 詞性轉(zhuǎn)換就是指翻譯過程中為了使譯文符合目標語的表述方式、方法和習慣而對原句中的詞類進行轉(zhuǎn)換。具體的說,就是在詞性方面,把名詞轉(zhuǎn)換為代詞、形容詞、動詞;把動詞轉(zhuǎn)換成名詞、形容詞、副詞、介詞;把形容詞轉(zhuǎn)換成副詞和短語等等。在外貿(mào)函電英譯漢過程中,有些句子可以逐詞對譯,有些句子則由于英漢兩種語言的表達方式不同,就不能逐詞對譯,只有轉(zhuǎn)換詞性后才能使?jié)h語譯文通順自然。例如: 1)Considering the small amount of goods shipped we agree to make an exception by accepting the payment by D/P.“exception”名詞,“除外,例外”,在此句子中翻譯為動詞“破例”的意思。 2)The instrument is characterized by its compactness and portability.“characterized”本為動詞“特征”轉(zhuǎn)換為名詞“特點”。 3)The new contact would be good for ten years.“good”形容詞,“有益的,有效的”在此處轉(zhuǎn)換為名詞“有效期”。 4)Silk is in,and synthetic fibers are out.“in”、“out”都是副詞,譯為“在……之內(nèi)”“在……之外”,在這里都被轉(zhuǎn)換成動詞“時髦”“過時”。 4根據(jù)函電特有詞匯確定詞義 4.1將普通詞匯轉(zhuǎn)換為外貿(mào)術(shù)語來確定詞義 外貿(mào)英文函電經(jīng)常使用某些詞匯來表示外貿(mào)業(yè)務(wù)某些特定的事實,說明某種條款和條件,由于被反復(fù)使用,因而這些詞匯被賦予了特殊意義,便成為了外貿(mào)書信中的慣用詞或外貿(mào)術(shù)語。如:“offer”在日常英語中是普通詞匯,意思是“提供,提出”,但在函電中被譯為“發(fā)盤,報盤”;“cover”普通含義為“遮蓋”,在外貿(mào)所涉及的保險業(yè)務(wù)中被譯為“投?!?“claim”的普通意思是“要求、宣稱”的意思,在外貿(mào)英語函電中被譯為“索賠”。 4.2根據(jù)復(fù)合詞確定詞義 復(fù)合詞雖然在日常英語中很少使用,但由于其帶有濃厚的正式語體色彩,因而在外貿(mào)信函中經(jīng)常使用,以顯示其行文的嚴肅性和法律意味。常見的復(fù)合詞由副詞和介詞構(gòu)成,如here- after,hereby,thereby,whereas,whereby等。翻譯這類復(fù)合詞時要掌握其構(gòu)成與意思之間的聯(lián)系,理解起來就較容易了。here理解為this,there為that,where為which。hereafter譯為after this;wherein譯為of that。 4.3根據(jù)縮寫詞確定詞義 常見的縮寫詞的方式主要分為以下幾類:① 首字母縮略詞:FOB(free on board);L/C(letter of credit);② 截短詞:Exp.&Imp.Inc.(Export and Import Incorporated);Ad.(advertisement);③ 混合型縮略詞:4P(place, product, price,promotion)。大多數(shù)縮略詞和簡稱可以通過熟悉業(yè)務(wù)工作和查找字典理解它們的含義,但有些縮略詞是人們在特定的上下文中編出來的,碰到這種情況,一定要根據(jù)上下文來決定它的意思,或查閱縮略詞典,萬不可隨心所欲猜測。 5結(jié)語 國際商務(wù)的豐富內(nèi)容和繁雜活動決定了國際商務(wù)英語函電翻譯的復(fù)雜性、特殊性和多樣性,它不僅涉及兩種文字和文化的轉(zhuǎn)換,更涉及國際商務(wù)理論知識、國際商務(wù)各個領(lǐng)域的專業(yè)語言特點和各種國際商務(wù)文體的行文和專門表達法。因此在翻譯過程中,不能孤立片面地去盲目理解詞義,我們應(yīng)該正確理解詞的確切含義,根據(jù)外貿(mào)英語函電詞匯的獨特特點,注重函電用詞的嚴謹性和準確性,準確把握每個詞在句中的正確含義,以避免在工作中誤譯而影響貿(mào)易活動的正常進行。 參考文獻 [1]郭著章等.英漢互譯實用教程[M].武漢:武漢大學出版社,1996.
